Judge Warren addressed the meeting requesting greater involvement and service to the Rotary. He stated that to many Rotary members do not serve on any committees or assist in Rotary projects. Further he asked the members to bring any concerns or complaints to board members.
Here Comes the Gov was the message from President Esther. She informed us that the Rotary district Governor will be addressing us on Sept.22. - and that the bad boys table should be on their best behavior.
Dr. Eric Baumgartner was our featured speaker - sharing his insights into the world of robotics. Eric, a former Lima Rotary member, is Currently the Dean of the College of Engineering at Ohio Northern University. He spent 10 years in a leadership role on the Mars exploration rover project for NASA. Interesting nuggets from his talk includes that the Mars explorer that he helped design and build is still in service on Mars 10 years after it was placed in service. Robots are being designed and built to assist in most every thing we do from cleaning to surgery. Even driving our car some day in the near future will likely be done by a robotic system if Google has its way. And last but not least - we learned how to survive a robot uprising. Always remember that we are smarter that the robots - OK, maybe so Dr. Baumgartner - and if all else fails we can always nuke them.
