District Governor Duke encourages us to be active in Rotary.
Rotary District 6600 Governor Jim Duke told us that people who are active in Rotary and enjoying themselves, are most likely to stay in Rotary. He encouraged us to follow Rotary's four part action plan: increase our impact by engaging in more service projects, increase our reach by participating in global projects, increase participation in our club and district activities, and be willing to adapt to the world's changing needs. He also stressed the importance of donating to the foundation. "The foundation is very important to our organization. This year, our district awarded close to $63,000 in grant money to local clubs. That money came from us...you, me, all of us. So when you give to the foundation, that money is coming right back here to our district." He told us that the district also had $175,000 available for global grants this year. Among the projects being funded by the district are a mobile dental clinic on the island of Saint Lucia and harvesting rain water in Mexico. DG Jim also congratulated the Lima Rotary Club for 'having it all together.' "When I walked in the door today, I thought, wow, this is a passionate club. You're active, you're talking to each other, you're engaged."
Also at Monday's meeting, Dick Schroeder presented Paul Harris pins to 8 club members. Lesley Fry, Katy Page, Joe Patton, Karen Grothouse and Josh Parker all became Paul Harris fellows. Rashawna Perry received her Paul Harris +1 pin and Cliff Barber received his Paul Harris +3 pin. And Cliff donated his excess Paul Harris points to Aaron McLaurine, enabling him to become a Paul Harris fellow. Thank you for your generosity!
