It was Roman to the Rescue for a local author.
Lima native Sophie Starr struggled with life during her teenage years and found herself in a treatment facility in Florida at the age of 19. Upon her release she went on what she called a "reverse mission trip" to Gahanna, Africa where she says she was given much more than she gave and learned a new way of living. She also met a stray puppy there which she named Roman, adopted him and brought home with her. "Having Roman and having someone to take care of outside of myself was what really changed my life the most. Roman was the light of my life while he was here and I'm so grateful for the lessons he taught me that changed my life for the better." When Roman died two years ago, Sophie began writing about their real life adventures and the lessons she learned and realized it would make a good children's book. Sophie called it Roman to the Rescue. She found an editor, an agent and an illustrator, and decided to self-publish the book. It is available at Barns & Noble and Amazon. A portion of every purchase is donated to animal rescue groups around the world. Sophie is working on two new books which she hopes to publish soon.
