Lima Rotary Club gets safety advice during Fire Prevention Week.
Fire Prevention Week has been dedicated to educating the public on fire safety and prevention since 1922. Perry Fire Department Assistant EMS Chief Brooke Hedges told us the most important things we can do to protect ourselves from fire in our homes and businesses are to make sure we have working smoke detectors, and a safety plan that everyone knows. She also recommends that you close your door when you sleep, since that could give you the few extra minutes you need to escape if your home is on fire, and make sure everyone in the home knows two ways out of their bedroom, and has a ladder for every bedroom that is higher than the ground floor. For businesses, the most common safety violations they see are, non-operational fire systems and emergency doors, emergency lights not working, fire extinguishers that are not serviced or tagged, open electrical junction boxes, blocked electrical panels and fire alarms, overloaded electrical cords, missing ceiling tiles, items being hung from fire extinguishers, and fire protection systems being overdue for inspection. Assistant Chief Hedges says that citation is never the goal, working toward code compliance is, so if you need any assistance bringing your building up to code, contact your local fire department for help.
Also at Monday's meeting, Dr. Ezema encouraged us to donate to PolioPlus. This year's campaign goal is $3,000. You can donate via check, credit card, cash, Venmo, PayPal, invoice, or through our website by clicking here. Dr. Ezema started the campaign by donated $500! Thank you for your generosity!
Reporting for the social committee, Tim Sielschott said that they are hoping to schedule a social to watch the OSU/Indiana game on October 17. They are waiting for the kickoff time to be announced so they can finalize plans. We'll keep you posted!
