HCF Regional Manager, Scott Unverferth, updated the Lima Rotary Club on the company's vision and operations.

HCF had modest beginnings in 1968 when it purchased Roselawn Manor in Spencerville.  Forty four years later, HCF owns 24 skilled nursing facilities and 4 assisted living communities in Ohio and Indiana.

Regional Manager Scott Unverferth told the Lima Rotary Club on January 16th that the company strives to be the best health care provider and constantly works to improve resident care, employee development and business results.  He says that this is a very challenging time for the managed care industry, which is dealing with sharp cuts in both Medicare and Medicaid and will likely see more in the future.  But Unverferth says that also opens a lot of opportunities for a company like theirs which is strong and stable.  ”Several facilities are coming up for sale, more in the last six months than we have ever seen.”

Unverferth says HCF has been renovating its facilities and plans to do more exhaustive remodeling in 2012 in order to create more private rooms and to provide the space and service demanded by residents today.  HCF is also expanding in the areas of assisted living, home health care and home care.  Its efforts are paying off:  HCF facilities rank higher in quality on their annual surveys than both the state and federal average.

In other business, Anne Decker presented a check for $8,205 to Major Phil Tamayo of the Salvation Army.  This is half the proceeds from the 2011 Rotary Christmas Auction.  An equal amount was raised for the Lima Rotary Foundation.
